Minister of Health Joseph Kasonde says the Ministry of Finance has released 25 million Kwacha to support the preparedness and response activities against cholera which has broken out in Lusaka and Chibombo districts.
And Dr. Kasonde says a National Epidemic Preparedness, Prevention, Control and Management committee has been set up to monitor and provide guidance on cholera.
He says the committee is holding frequent meetings on the matter.

The Minister of Health also urged community leaders to play a role in preventing cholera outbreaks.

ZAMBIA FREE OF ZIKA
And Dr. Kasonde has assured the public that Zambia is free of the ZIKA virus and that the Ministry of Health is doing its best to ensure that the disease does not reach the country.
Dr. Kasonde made the assurances today when he called on Livingstone District Commissioner Omar Munsanje.
The minister said even though cases of the ZIKA have not been reported in Zambia the Ministry of Health has put in place a surveillance system through regular blood tests in possible ZIKA prone areas.
Dr. Kasonde added that the Ministry of Health is monitoring all births in Zambia for any babies born with deformities that could be associated with the ZIKA virus.
In another development, Dr. Kasonde said the government is proud to have upgraded Livingstone Central Hospital that has attracted partnership from the Mulungushi University to turn the health institution it into a medical teaching school.
Dr. Kasonde is in Livingstone to attend the Flowers Cross Border Malaria Initiative Annual Roundtable meeting.
And Livingstone District Commissioner Omar Munsanje praised the government for the infrastructure development at the Livingstone Central Hospital.
