Dar es Salaam. Bongo Flava musician Michael Mhina a.k.a "John Walker" has died, his family has confirmed.
Speaking to The Citizen Digital by phone this morning, the father of
the late artist, Denis Mhina, said his son died lastnight at the
Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam.
Walker, who was an artist of the Watukutu Group, was rushed to the
hospital soon after a gas cylinder had fallen on him and burnt his head
when he was fixing his car.
"Right now we're at Muhimbili following several procedures here.
After we finish, we will leave his body here (in hospital) and then
return to Ilala Bungoni where we are mourning for him," said the father
of the deceased.
However, Mhina said that the body of his son would be transported
to Tanga Region tomorrow for burial on Thursday at Kigongoi in Mkinga
District.
For his part, the President of the Music Federation in the country,
Addo November, has said that artists are saddened by this tragedy and
are now lining up to cooperate with the family of the deceased to ferry
his body to Tanga.
"At the moment we are returning from the deceased’s home (this
morning), funeral arrangements are made at Ilala Bungoni. No official
information although there is the possibility of transporting the body
tomorrow to Tanga," November said.
The president said that the artists had already started collecting
money to help the deceased and until yesterday evening about Sh.1.1
million had been obtained.
The deceased is survived by a wife and one child
