Season 7 winner David Cook returned to the American Idol stage to perform his new single, "Heartbeat," on the Thursday night (March 24) broadcast.
"Heartbeat" kicks off Cook's latest CD,Digital Vein, released last September on his own label, Analog Heart Music. It reached No. 35 on the Billboard 200, and hit No. 8 on the Independent Albums chart.
The 33-year old Texas native sang the song against a montage of past Idol winners, which host Ryan Seacrest said would be showing up at the April Grand Finale.
Speaking to host Ryan Seacrest, Cook confirmed that he had gotten married last summer and will serve as best man at his brother's forthcoming wedding. When Seacrest offered that he was going to be the "man of honor" at his sister's wedding, Cook countered, "you're going to look good in a dress, man."
Cook was gracious talking about his history with the show. "I'm so thankful for the platform," he said.
Cook said he played in the clubs for ten years trying to get people to pay attention, andIdol "afforded me an opportunity. "It's been a blast," he said.
The singer -- who has returned many times to the show as a performer and a mentor -- will return in two weeks for the finale.
