Season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended with plenty of questions about the future of the Inhumans. After the battle with Jiaying the case of terrigen crystals were dropped into the ocean, only to be ingested by fish and processed into terrigen-laced fish oil capsules now available at the local drug store. Whereas before only a select number of individuals went through the transformation, now anyone with the Kree-modified genetics who ingests the pills will gain powers.

We’ve already seen that Coulson and Daisy Johnson – also known as Quake – will be assembling the Secret Warriors, and will face plenty of challenges, including new villains and Rosalind Price’s (Constance Zimmer) Advanced Threat Containment Unit. We can now reveal that they have another hurdle to overcome: trying to convince the once-friendly Inhuman Lincoln to join their team.

Stan Lee Believes He Knows Why 'Fantastic Four' Flopped
In a new clip we can see what happened to Lincoln after his discovery of Jiaying’s manipulation and evil plans. He has retreated from the world of powered people and is attempting to build a new life, working as a medical resident. Daisy – along with her new partner Mack – tries to convince him to join their team, helping newly transformed Inhumans transition peacefully. Disillusioned with the dream that he worked for in ‘Afterlife’ he calls their powers a curse and asks to be left alone. “I thought I made it pretty clear” he tells Mack, “I’m not taking orders from anyone anymore.”

It seems likely that he will eventually change his mind and join the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. Not only is he one of the few Inhumans aside from Daisy that has been developed, Lincoln is also featured in the show’s poster with the rest of the agents, and Grant Ward.  His involvement should speed the creation of the Secret Warriors, and is a natural addition to the team. Though we don’t know exactly how long Lincoln has had his own powers, he was trained by Jiaying and is experienced transitioning other Inhumans through the process.

It remains to be seen if ingesting the capsules will kill people without the Inhuman gene – presumably triggering a recall – but from the sound of things enough people have gotten to the tainted pills to trigger mass transformations. Having S.H.I.E.L.D. competing against the ATCU to find them adds a level of urgency to the project, and it will be interesting to see how the new Inhumans get along with the the team – many of whom have negative biases against people with powers. Of course, we’ll have to see how the integration is handled, but so far this looks to be another strong season for the show.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 premieres Tuesday, September 29th at 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC. Agent Carter season 2 is expected to air during the mid-season break in early 2016.
